5. Joe Bryant and Kobe Bryant
If you’re not a big NBA fan like myself, you might not know that Kobe Bryant is actually a second-generation basketball player. We all know about the Black Mamba and his numerous, numerous NBA awards, but what about his father? The 14th pick in the 1975 NBA Draft, Joe Bryant played the game from 1975 until 1992. However, he only played in the NBA until 1983, playing for three teams ( 76ers, Clippers and Rockets). He then played in Italy and France before his retirement.
Since 2003, Joe Bryant has served as a coach for several different teams in several different leagues, including the ABA (the one established in 2000), the WNBA, the ABL and two Japanese teams. He’s also most known as the Los Angeles Sparks’ coach from 2005 to 2006 and in 2011.
