Kevin Harvick led 214 laps during Sunday’s Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway but ran into a series of pit road issues that angered the 2014 champion, to put it mildly.

Pitting with the lead with just over 80 laps remaining, Harvick’s crew performed a 17-second pit stop. While crew chief Rodney Childers initially said something was wrong with the rear airgun, he later admitted that the tool was switched to reverse and knocked all the lug nuts off of the tire. The mistake dropped Harvick from first to 12th. In all, Harvick lost 17 spots on pit road Sunday.

“Y’all honestly just don’t want to f— win, do you,” Harvick said on the radio. “I’m sure we just lost this race. Pretty much over at this point.”

Childers tried to calm Harvick, saying “Ain’t nothing we can do about it now. Just going to have to do the best we can.”

Responded Harvick: “Same thing I’ve been doing all f— night.”
Harvick said after the race that he’s tired of being a cheerleader for his struggling crew.

“These guys get paid good money,” he said. “They need to do a better job.”

Sprint Cup drivers’ tempers have little time to calm before the final race of the regular season begins Saturday at Richmond.
