The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed college free agent forward Thomas DiPauli, according to sources.

DiPauli was a senior from Notre Dame who was previously under control by the Washington Capitals.

Originally a fourth-round pick of the mentioned Capitals, DiPauli was a top player in his time with Notre Dame and will provide the Penguins with a high energy player who could probably make an immediate impact on the team’s third or fourth line next season.

It’s not known if this signing takes Pittsburgh out of the running for Jimmy Vesey, but DiPauli could indeed be their fallback option if they were turned down by Vesey’s camp.
