Tennis- World No.1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic faced a shocking defeat in the second round but 9-time Monte-Carlo Champion Rafael Nadal and 2014 Champion Stanislas Wawrinka are through to the third round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2016 with straight sets victories over their opponents. The sixth seed and last year’s finalist Tomas Berdych also faced a loss.
Novak Djokovic suffered a shock exit at the Monte Carlo Masters, losing to world number 55 Jiri Vesely in three sets.
The Czech player upset the odds to take the opening set 6-4 but it looked as if Djokovic had rediscovered his touch on clay by taking the second 6-2.
However, Vesely was not to be denied as he broke the world number one in the third set before holding his nerve to close out the match for the greatest win of his career, progressing 6-4 2-6 6-4.
Djokovic had lost only one match this year, which was also due to retirement against Feliciano Lopez in Dubai. He had won 14 matches in a row, a streak which included Davis Cup first round, Indian Wells and Miami wins. He had also won 18 of the last 20 matches in Monte-Carlo, as he won in 2013 and 2015.
Earlier Aljaz Bedene found Rafael Nadal too hot to handle on the clay in Monaco.
