Martial completed a £58million move from Monaco last summer and has already racked up 13 goals for the club this season – only Wayne Rooney has scored more for United.

And the 20-year-old has revealed how his style has changed even in the seven months since he arrived at Old Trafford.

“I realised that I could play ninety minutes and then go and do it again,” Martial told France Football.

“At Monaco, I often played sixty or seventy minutes and then I went off because I was tired.

“But now I am getting better. I have not changed my approach, I continue to eat well and sleep well but, by having to play consecutive matches and training harder, my body has got used to it.”

And Martial has revealed that playing in last month’s 1-0 derby win over Manchester City was the highlight of his first Premier League campaign.

“I love this championship, this is the one I always wanted to play in,” Martial added.

“For example, the Manchester derby.

“To play this kind of match is every footballer’s dream.

“There were only good players on the pitch.

“In of course, there was the victory at the end.”

Anthony Martial has stopped taking English lessons but the Manchester United striker has no problem understanding Louis van Gaal .

Martial has scored 13 goals in 40 games in an encouraging debut season at the club after he joined from Monaco in a £36m deal on transfer deadline day last summer.

The 20-year-old has struck up a close bond with fellow French speakers Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial but struggles to understand his English teammates.

When asked by France Football who he was closest to at United, Martial replied: “Schneiderlin and Fellaini.

“At first, I took English lessons, but because we played every three days, I stopped. It’s fine, though. I’m getting better and better at it, hearing it and speaking it all the time.

“The manager doesn’t really have an accent, so I understand him, more than the English players! I also get along well with Memphis and Januzaj. They’re good guys.”
